Mike Scott-Harding

Mike Scott-Harding is a singer - songwriter, poet and playwright who over the past twenty years has performed worldwide in many different settings often working in latter day line ups of The Drifters, Platters and other Motown heritage acts and also as a solo artist.

He has freelanced for Brazilian-fusion outfit Da Lata, and for Doo-wop harmony group, The Extraordinaires in the studio, live and on TV and has used his writing talents for projects ranging from successfully staging his own musical (The Patty Shop Diaries) to ghost writing speeches for prominent speakers doing Ted Talks.

The pandemic gave him a chance to recalibrate his direction and, having fortuitously connected with producer/composer William South, make his long delayed debut album which is to be gradually rolled out through the winter/spring of 2021/22.

Testimonials

" As soon as I’d checked out his captivating demo videos for some of the songs I quickly realised I was being introduced to a most singular talent with many aspects. First you discover the voice – a glorious instrument that to me simultaneously manages to combine the tone and musicality of a Gregory Porter or Gil Scott Heron, the dramatics perhaps of Williard White and a strong hint of Jamaica delivered with the tightest of focus. It’s exceptional...

But then you start to dig in to the lyrics and realise that there’s a serious, unique, passionate writing voice there too – one that could stand along side the great Black British voices such as Akala, Roger Robinson, Benjamin Zephaniah or Linton Kewsi Johnson...

"I have had the privilege to work alongside and be coached by Mike. His knowledge and detail for his art whether as a vocal coach, composer/singer/songwriter or writter is impressive and inspiring to say the least.

He has a wonderful ability to account for the wider, social, political and systemic happenings which takes his work and approach one step ahead of the rest."
